Lead Enterprise Architect

Lead Architect (Enterprise / Technology) – Speciality & Reinsurance

London Markets – Fixed Term Contract (FTC), 12 months

We are seeking an experienced technology architecture leader to define and oversee the enterprise technology architecture for a global insurance company undergoing a major transformation.

About the Role

This critical position will require a strategic thinker with deep expertise in specialty insurance, reinsurance, and enterprise architecture, capable of:

  • Leading the design, alignment, and execution of enterprise-wide technology strategy
  • Shaping cloud (Microsoft Azure), application, data, and integration architectures
  • Partnering with business stakeholders to drive strategic technology investments
  • Providing thought leadership on emerging technologies and their application in the insurance sector

The role is initially fixed-term (12 months), based on a hybrid in-office (London-based, 3 days/week) model.


Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Governance

  • Define and own the enterprise architecture strategy, ensuring alignment with business goals, regulatory requirements, and Group technology standards.
  • Oversee architectural governance, standards, and frameworks to drive consistency across all technology teams.
  • Develop and evolve cloud strategy, including Microsoft Azure - landing zones, shared services, and optimal service adoption.

Architecture & Transformation

  • Lead the future-state design of application, data, cloud, and integration architectures, prioritising resilience, scalability, security, and interoperability.
  • Guide major application selection decisions, particularly for underwriting, claims, pricing/actuarial, risk, finance, and operations.
  • Support regulatory compliance and security practices, mitigating operational/technology risk.
  • Influence transformation initiatives, ensuring alignment with enterprise aims.

Technology & Innovation

  • Evaluate evolving technologies (AI, data analytics, modern integration) and their relevance to specialty reinsurance markets.
  • Shape the data architecture vision, including data governance, analytics platforms, integration models, and AI enablement.

Vendor & Change Leadership

  • Partner with stakeholders to translate business objectives into practical technical roadmaps.
  • Oversee solution architecture for major initiatives, ensuring adherence to standards and quality benchmarks.
  • Guide procurement and vendor selection, verifying architectural integrity in contract design.

Team & Stakeholder Management

  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performance architecture team, embedding modern engineering principles.
  • Collaborate across IT, business, and governance functions to drive end-to-end architectural alignment.

Requirements & Expectations

Experience & Expertise

  • Proven track record as a lead architect (enterprise/technology) in insurance, specialty, or reinsurance, ideally within London Markets.
  • Deep understanding of core insurance platforms:
    • Underwriting, claims, pricing/actuarial, risk and exposure management systems
    • Cloud-native solutions, APIs, event-driven architectures
    • Regulatory reporting tools, data governance frameworks
  • Experience driving cloud modernisation (Azure), platform consolidation, and application rationalisation.
  • Expertise in examining and selecting COTS/SaaS solutions and leading technology assessment processes.

Technical Proficiency

  • Azure or similar cloud platforms (infrastructure, data, networking).
  • Modern integration patterns (REST, SOAP, API gateways, event-driven designs).
  • Data architecture & AI/ML integration (scalability, governance, analytics).
  • Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks (TOGAF, SAFe, enterprise architecture maturity models).

Soft Skills

  • Strong stakeholder Influence and translational communication skills.
  • Ability to balance technical precision with business agility.
  • Results-oriented with a proven change management trajectory.
