We’re partnering with a global energy trading business that is investing heavily in its technology function and looking to hire a Lead ETRM Application Developer to help shape and modernise the platforms that support its commodities trading business.

This is a high-impact opportunity for an experienced ETRM engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, working closely with the business, and building technology that directly supports front-office trading teams.

This is a brand-new position and one of the business’ highest priority technology hires. You’ll sit at the centre of the commodities trading lifecycle, working across applications and integrations that support everything from trade capture and exchange connectivity through to scheduling, risk, P&L and settlements.

Rather than being a purely support-focused ETRM role, this position is focused on engineering, modernisation and ownership, improving existing platforms, building new solutions and helping shape the future direction of the technology landscape.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
