At Bath & North East Somerset Council we have one overriding purpose to improve people’s lives.

We wish to recruit a dynamic person who has extensive knowledge and experience of special educational needs. If you share our passion for helping children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to achieve their full social and academic potential this could be the perfect role for you. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Inclusion and SEND Advice Service. The service provides a structure for co-ordinating and delivering support for Inclusion and SEND across B&NES.

About The Role

The advice service offers first line support for B&NES education settings, and professionals working with children and young people, from early years to FE College, as part of the SEND System of Support. This role will support settings to identify SEND at the earliest possible opportunity alongside ensuring all settings share a culture of inclusion. We are looking for someone who has the skills to be able to provide advice and make recommendations to professionals to implement timely support to meet children and young people. We work through a consultative model of working which includes individual child, cohort and whole setting support. This role requires an individual who is able to support settings inclusive approaches for children and young people with SEND and those at risk of placement breakdown.

This is an opportunity to shape the way we support inclusion for children and young people and help more young people to achieve the lives they aspire to as they reach adulthood.

About You

You will be adept in making decisions and working independently and will have a sound knowledge of special educational needs procedures and processes. You will need to communicate confidently with colleagues from education, health and social care in order to signpost to the services and resources that are available to them across the sector. You will be required to support education practitioners to recognise potential unmet needs and to develop effective local inclusive practice through consistent delivery of ordinarily available provision in settings including implementation of the graduated approach (APDR) and by responding to enquiries related to the Inclusion and SEND Commitment.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
