About the Role
The Chief Security Office (CSO) plays a critical role in shaping Lloyds Banking Group’s security strategy and delivering enterprise security services, enabling digital transformation while protecting customers and the organisation. As the Group evolves into a fintech leader, cloud-native security engineering is at the forefront, demanding automation, visibility, and protection across multi-cloud environments.
The Cloud & Compute Security Lab is redefining security by building a Unified Exposure Management (UEM) platform—moving beyond traditional controls. Working with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and CI/CD pipelines, this platform will scale enterprise-wide, securing thousands of workloads critical to banking operations.
You’ll shape the future of security: lead system design, drive automation, and collaborate across multiple teams to embed security early in development cycles. Using AI and modern tooling, we’ll create a platform that’s resilient, adaptive, and trusted.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and scale cloud-native security infrastructure at enterprise scale across multi-cloud environments.
- Define and enforce Unified Exposure Management through IaC (Terraform) and DevOps engineering practices (CI/CD with Harness).
- Drive containerisation (Kubernetes) and explainable security workflows, integrating them into development pipelines.
- Spearhead automation research, including L designed for automation, and advise on where AI agents could enhance operations.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to build secure products and manage risks, fostering a security-first culture.
- Influence security trends across the organisation, working across different cloud platforms (GCP/Azure) and traditional infrastructure (Windows/RHEL).
- Resolve complex security challenges interventions with cross-team impact.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
