Through the Nautical Institute Academy, we deliver high-quality education and professional development that supports safer shipping and lifelong learning across the global maritime industry.
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Lead Maritime Instructor & Course Coordinator to join our Academy team. This is an exciting opportunity for a maritime professional or experienced trainer who is passionate about developing others and delivering high-quality learning.
In this role, you will lead the delivery and coordination of a diverse portfolio of professional development programmes, including classroom training, virtual learning, workshops, endorsed courses, and professional schemes. You will play a key role in maintaining the Academy's reputation for excellence while helping to shape the future of maritime learning.
The Role
As Lead Instructor & Course Coordinator, you will be responsible for delivering engaging learning experiences while ensuring our training programmes are planned, coordinated, and continuously improved.
Key Responsibilities
- Delivering engaging and high-quality training in face-to-face, virtual, and blended learning environments
- Coordinating the end-to-end delivery of Academy training programmes
- Managing training schedules, resources, instructors, venues, and digital platforms
- Monitoring learner engagement, course performance, and quality metrics
- Maintaining quality assurance processes and regulatory compliance
- Supporting the development and continuous improvement of training programmes
- Building strong relationships with learners, clients, instructors, and industry stakeholders
- Providing leadership and guidance to instructors and subject matter experts

About You
We are looking for someone who brings a combination of instructional excellence, operational coordination, and industry credibility.
Essential Requirements
- Experience delivering training, courses, or professional learning programmes
- Experience coordinating face-to-face and online training events
- Strong organisational and project management skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
- Experience using Learning Management Systems (such as Moodle)
- A proactive, detail-oriented, and learner-focused approach
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
- Within commuting distance of London
- Willingness to travel for course delivery
Desirable
- Master Mariner Certificate of Competency or equivalent maritime qualification
- Experience within the maritime, offshore, or marine sector
- Teaching, training, or instructional qualification
- Knowledge of maritime education, professional development, or accreditation frameworks
- Experience within a quality assurance or regulated training environment

- Competitive salary of £45,000–£50,000 (more may be available in some circumstances for a highly experienced candidate)
