Role: Lead Java Developer
Location: Bristol, UK
We are looking for developers with significant experience in backend development in a modern cloud-based architecture. Your primary focus will be development of server-side logic, definition and maintenance of data sources, and ensuring high performance and responsiveness to requests from the front-end. You will be leading other engineers, evangelizing about engineering and guiding them to deliver well structured, high quality, solutions with an appreciation of the full SDLC.
Responsibilities
- Working with teams across the organisation to architect, design, and implement solutions
- Designing, developing and productising components and services that make up our Customer’s Product – a fully automated platform and CD stack we use to bootstrap and accelerate Customer Journey Engineering
- Building reusable code and libraries
- Develop, test and deliver solutions for customers that provide highly scalable and repeatable integrations
- A true “roll up the sleeves and get it done” working approach; a problem solver, operating as a result-oriented, self-starter
- Leveraging your broad technology capability set and develop, and iteratively deploy real enterprise class software
- Bringing a true DevOps and Agile mindset to the team – showing what it means to focus on continuous improvement and removal of waste, resulting in a team that can stun clients with their ability to deliver excellent solutions at pace

Required Skills & Experience
- Strong problem-solving skills and hands on experience with data structures and algorithms
- Very strong object-oriented design skills and understanding of well-engineered design of microservices
- Java EE including (Web Services, REST, JPA), Spring, Hibernate
- Service-Oriented and Event-Driven Architectures and common Design patterns (Kafka streaming and Pub-Sub desirable)
- Delivering high quality, low complexity code including proven expertise in unit testing, component testing, and BDD frameworks (e.g., Cucumber)
- Proven GCP experience
- GitHub
- Practical experience of CI/CD tools and practices (e.g. Jenkins and Harness)
Nice to have:
- Database experience (at least one of Big Query, Spanner, PostgreSQL, Oracle)
- Experience with Service Mesh technologies such as Istio for traffic management, observability and service to service communication
- SRE mindset and proficiency in observability platforms, including Dynatrace and Splunk
- MVC, and knowledge of other server-side and Front-End programming languages
