The Company

At Amber Labs, we are a cutting-edge UK and European technology consultancy that prioritises empowering autonomy, promoting experimentation, and facilitating rapid learning to provide exceptional value to our clients. Our company culture is centred around collaboration, where all colleagues, regardless of their role, work together to minimise risk and shorten delivery times. Our team consists of highly-skilled cross-functional consultants, analysts, and support staff.

About the Role

As a Lead Developer, you’ll provide hands-on technical leadership across complex digital services. You’ll work closely with architects, engineers, and delivery teams to design and build robust backend systems, modern APIs, and cloud-native microservices on Azure. You’ll set engineering standards, mentor developers, and ensure solutions are secure, scalable, and aligned with best practice.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and build Java-based microservices, APIs, and integration layers
  • Develop cloud-native solutions using AWS services
  • Shape engineering patterns, coding standards, and best practices
  • Collaborate with architects to ensure solutions align with technical strategy
  • Drive high-quality delivery through code reviews, pairing, and mentoring
  • Build secure, performant, maintainable backend components
  • Work with DevOps engineers to support CI/CD pipelines and automated testing
  • Troubleshoot complex integration challenges across distributed systems
  • Contribute to technical roadmaps and solution design discussions

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
