Principal Java Developer

About RE Partners

We are a fast growing business and technology consultancy co-founded in 2019, specialising in custom-tailored, white-glove engineering services. We help clients succeed beyond technology—our supportive, high-performing teams deliver digital transformation by forming trusted partnerships with global organisations, including Fortune 500 companies and industry leaders.

Our ethos revolves around the "3 G’s":

  • Get Shit Done.
  • Get Over Shit.
  • Give a Shit.

The Role

We’re looking for an experienced, opinionated and results-driven Principal Java Developer to join our engineering team, shaping low-latency, high-throughput systems in payments processing.

Based in the UK with a hybrid working model, this position focuses on building scalable, real-time services, and leveraging modern architectures.

This is your chance to embrace full ownership over architectural design and best-in-class engineering within a collaborative culture that values perfection, autonomy, and impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimise low-latency, high-throughput backend systems using Java.
  • Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices for secure payment workflows.
  • Implement messaging standards and protocols for financial transactions.
  • Deploy, monitor, and scale applications using Red Hat OpenShift and AWS cloud environments.
  • Integrate MongoDB and NoSQL/SQL databases for real-time data management.
  • Collaborate with DevOps, Product, and QA teams to deliver production-grade solutions.
  • Drive architectural improvements, and provide mentorship to junior developers.
  • Focus on performance tuning, fault tolerance, and observability across services.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
