Lead Learning Support Assistant, FASHION RETAIL ACADEMY

Education for Industry Group

Position

Part-Time: 0.5FTE (18.5 hours per week via Saturdays + 1.5 days/week) Venue: LCBT Academy (3-5 Fashion Street, London, E1 6PX) and FRA Academy (Electra House – London, Moorgate EC2M 6SE)

About The Role

Join our team as a Lead Learning Support Assistant, leading efforts to enhance outcomes for students with declared needs across FRA and LCBT colleges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Learner Support: Provide high-quality, inclusive support to learners with Learning Difficulties and/ or Disabilities (SEND)—including those with complex emotional challenges—helping them develop core skills, build confidence, and achieve qualifications.
  • Independent Skills Development: Nurture learners’ independence, resilience, and engagement in key academic areas.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor Learning Support Assistants, ensuring consistent, high standards of support delivery across LCBT.
  • Collaborate with Staff: Work closely with lecturers, tutors, and classroom faculty to improve attainment, particularly in literacy and numeracy.
  • Raising Attainment: Contribute to reducing achievement gaps through targeted support and monitoring progress.

About You

Qualifications

  • Academic Baseline: Must hold a Level 3 qualification equivalent (e.g. A-Levels) alongside Maths and English GCSEs.
  • Desirable Specialisms:
    • SEND/Learning Support certification (e.g. Dyslexia Training, SENCo skills)
    • Safeguarding qualification or willingness to obtain upon appointment.
    • First Aid training (credited or in-progress preferred).

Experience

  • Essential:
    • Significant experience supporting vulnerable learners with SEND or special needs in an educating setting (schools, colleges).
    • Proven expertise supervising/coordinating LC-valued support staff.
  • Preferred:
    • Experience working in Further Education or adult education.
    • Familiarity with specialist interventions like emotional wellbeing support.

Key Expertise

  • Deep knowledge of barriers to academic progress for at-risk learners.
  • Strong background in topical safeguarding, wellbeing, and equality—with a Further Education focus.
  • Ability to ensure safe and inclusive learning environments per known policies.

Desired Skills & Mindset

  • Organisation & Teamwork: Collaboratively managed multi-disciplinary environments with colleagues.
  • Professional Boundaries: Confident in establishing rapport whilst maintaining appropriate conduct.
  • Values: ✔ Accountability for learner success. ✔ Adaptability to diverse learner needs. ✔ Advocacy for equity-led teaching.
  • Note: A mix of qualifications/experience is acceptable; gaps can be discussed in-app/appointment.

Salary

Base Pay for 0.5FTE (pro rata for 1.0FTE)

  • £15,300–£16,150 (31.5 hours/week) → £30,600–£32,300 if applicable.
