About Cloud Imperium Games We’re a crowdfunded company building the “Best Damn Space Sim Ever” with a community of passionate backers at our core. Founded in 2012, we’re developing Star Citizen, a groundbreaking multiplayer space sim, and Squadron 42, a cinematic single-player adventure in the same universe. About the Role
As a Lead Level Designer based in Frankfurt, you’ll collaborate with the Art team to design and develop sandbox experiences—ranging from small outposts to massive cities—across planets, moons, and solar systems. This role is at the heart of Star Citizen’s world-building, shaping the universe’s vibrant milieu alongside Artists.

Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with Game Directors to craft unique, engaging locations for Star Citizen's vast universe
- Bridge the gap between Design and Environment teams, ensuring gameplay excellence and stunning visual polish
- Hands-on delivery: Contribute directly to implementation while maintaining strategic vision
- Drive collaborative design discussions, fostering a creative, inclusive atmosphere where team members thrive
- Campaign from Game Directors and leadership, upholding rigorous quality standards
- Identify tools/process gaps, proposing improvements to streamline workflow
- Mentor team members, fostering professional growth and a positive work culture

What We’re Looking For
- Proven senior/lead level design experience: At least one large-scale FPS/third-person game (e.g., AAA titles)
- Art aesthetic: Sharp eye for compositions, architecture, and believable environments
- Technical knowing: Understanding of visual scripting and design processes
- Creative skill: Ability to draft peer-review-ready proposals
- Mindset: Proactive, exceptionally organised, and a natural problem-solver
