Mechanical Engineer Lead – Highly Regulated Industry (UK Roles Only)

About the Role
Are you a skilled Mechanical Engineer with experience in team leadership and delivering innovative solutions in a heavily regulated environment? We’re looking for a proven professional to take ownership of mechanical and structural design, provide technical leadership, and drive projects through to completion.
This role lives in a dynamic, problem-solving environment where collaboration and expertise make the difference.
Missions & Responsibilities
Technical & Project Leadership
- Lead and mentor engineering teams, ensuring alignment with customer requirements and high-quality technical solutions.
- Oversee the full mechanical design lifecycle, including bespoke mechanical handling systems, lifting equipment, and accessories, from concept through to final manufacture.
- Develop, review, and verify technical documentation, including:
- Design reports
- Detailed design drawings
- Technical files & calculations
- Compliance documentation (e.g., safety manuals, process specifications)
- Provide technical guidance & risk assessment, proactively identifying and mitigating challenges before they impact project timelines.

Stakeholder Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with project managers, lead engineers, and stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution.
- Engage with vendors & supply chains, specifying and developing mechanical components while adhering to commercial constraints.
- Ensure alignment with international regulations, including:
- Machinery Safety Regulations
- LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations)
Technical Tools & Software
- Proficient in:
- Autodesk Inventor
- AutoCAD
- FEA tools (ANSYS, STAAD via MathCAD preferred)
- Experience with piping design software (e.g., Fluid Master/Fluid Flow, CAESAR).
- Knowledge of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) & requirements-led design is advantageous.
Requirements
Education & Qualifications
- BEng (2:1 or higher) in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status facilitated (or on track).
- Proven practical experience in mechanically challenging projects, such as:
- Offshore/energy sector
- Oil & gas
- Construction equipment
- Heavy transportation systems

Technical Expertise
- Strong design for fabrication expertise, including:
- Welding codes
- Manufacturing tolerancing
- Standardisation of components
- Deep knowledge of:
- Mechanical & structural engineering principles
- Design for Manufacture (DFM) & assembly optimisation
- Hydraulics & control systems (desirable)
- Practical knowledge of NAEA/UK crane standards (e.g., BS EN 13001, BS EN 13155) beneficial.
Contract & Security
- Must be a Sole UK National.
- Eligible to obtain SC (Security Clearance) (able to start on BPSS).
- Due to nature of work, residence criteria may apply for clearance attainment.
