An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Lead Mechanical Fitter to join a major UK port and logistics operation based in Barton upon Humber.
This well established business handles millions of tonnes of cargo every year and plays a critical role in supporting the energy, construction, manufacturing, and agriculture sectors.

The Role of the Lead Mechanical Fitter
As Lead Mechanical Fitter, you will be responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient maintenance of bulk handling equipment across the terminal. The Lead Mechanical Fitter will provide day to day technical leadership to the mechanical team and support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plant reliability and performance.
This is a hands on role working on a wide range of heavy industrial equipment, including conveyors, bucket elevators, hoppers, silos, dust extraction systems, cranes, and associated mechanical plant.

Responsibilities of the Lead Mechanical Fitter
- Lead and support the mechanical maintenance team
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown repairs
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical faults quickly and effectively
- Work on conveyors, bucket elevators, hoppers, silos, and dust collection systems
- Maintain gearboxes, motors, bearings, hydraulics, and pneumatic systems
- Carry out alignment work using laser alignment and dial test indicators
- Support root cause analysis and continuous improvement projects
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with company procedures
- Liaise closely with operations, electrical, and health and safety teams
- Provide occasional out of hours and weekend support when required
Requirements of the Lead Mechanical Fitter
- Level 3 NVQ or City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering
- At least 5 years of post Apprenticeship Mechanical Maintenance experience
- Experience working in heavy industrial environments such as ports, quarrying, mining, steelworks, power generation, or oil and gas
- Experience working on conveyors, bulk handling systems, and materials handling equipment
- Good knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics
- Experience with gearboxes, motors, bearings, cranes, rigging, and slinging
- Comfortable working at height and in confined spaces
- Supervisory or team leadership experience
- Must be flexible to work occasional weekends in line with operational requirements
- Full UK driving license
