Lead Midwife – Juniper Birth Centre
Job Overview
This Lead Midwife position is located within the Juniper Birth Centre at Wexham Park Hospital, part of Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will provide leadership, management, and clinical advice to all midwives within their area of responsibility. This is a part-time secondment position, continuing until approximately the end of January 2027.
The role plays a key part in:
- Leading the normalising birth agenda within the maternity service
- Incorporating Better Births ideals
- Collaborating with the birth centre lead midwife at sister sites
- Engaging in national campaigns and initiatives to advance maternity care
Key Responsibilities
- Provide visible and effective leadership, support, and management to midwives within the Juniper Birth Centre
- Establish and maintain strong communication channels between midwives and obstetricians
- Collaborate with other hospital departments as necessary, ensuring adherence to Trust clinical policies and health and safety guidelines
- Coordinate day-to-day operations of the Birth Centre
- Assume first-line sickness management for staff based at the Juniper Birth Centre
- Act as manager in charge of the maternity unit in the absence of the Midwifery Matron

Qualifications
Essential Criteria
- Registered as a Midwife (currently on the NMC register)
- Hold qualifications in Mentorship / SLIP / PSPA
- Provide evidence of continued professional development (CPD)
Desirable Criteria
- Completed leadership/management training
- Pursuing or having completed a Master’s-level study
Skills
Essential Criteria
- Demonstrates strong clinical leadership and influencing skills
- Possesses effective internet and IT capabilities
- Maintains excellent communication skills
