About NewDay
NewDay are seeking a Lead ML Engineer to define how machine-learning systems are delivered, operated, and scaled within a data-driven organisation. This role will set the standards, patterns, and technical foundations that enable models to transition reliably from experimentation to robust production.
Why This Role Matters
As the technical lead within NewDay’s MLOps function, you will shape how ML systems are engineered in practice. Your responsibilities include:
- Establishing meaningful standards, patterns, and technical approaches
- Guiding models through clear lifecycle stages
- Ensuring robustness when transitioning from experimentation to production
- Defining reusable practices that reduce engineering effort
How You’ll Contribute
As Lead ML Engineer, you will:
- Design standard reusable patterns for model serving, pipelines, and deployment
- Define standards for model packaging, versioning, CI/CD, monitoring, and observability
- Set production readiness criteria for models adopted by engineering workflows
- Provide technical direction for ML solutions across the team
- Evolve platform capabilities, reducing reliance on bespoke solutions
- Streamline model productionisation by establishing frameworks that lower effort

- Building, operating, and maintaining ML systems in production, including:
- Model serving
- Monitoring
- Model lifecycle management
- Understanding of serving patterns (batch vs. real-time) and the process of deploying models from training to production
- Collaboration with Data Science teams to create reliable, production grade solutions.
- Crafting clear engineering guidelines from complexity—drafting reusable patterns discussed across teams
- Setting technical direction and influencing engineering practices successfully
- Experience with cloud ML platforms (e.g., AWS SageMaker) and orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Step Functions)
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across multiple teams, including Data Science, Engineering, and Data Platforms.
