Lead Platform Engineer (Backend Python Focus) – Group Data Science Function

About the Role
We seek a Lead Platform Engineer (Backend Python) to join our Group Data Science function.
You will lead and pioneer the development and construction of software platforms across our retail banners and group functions. Your work will:
- Minimise time to value
- Maximise long-term effectiveness
- Deliver strategic commercial objectives
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Tech, Product, and Data Science teams to design and build platform solutions that integrate data science into our products and processes.
- Facilitate cross-functional communication, bridging the gap between business goals and data science applications.
- synthesise insights and facilitate discussion around insights and effective decision-making.
- Act as a key mentor in constructing a data-driven culture and demonstrating data’s business value.
- Provide technical leadership, fostering growth and development in junior team members.

Key Requirements
- Exceptional Python & Django expertise, particularly within backend and platform engineering.
- Rigorous computer science foundations with a deep understanding of machine learning.
- Commercial pipeline experience developing and productionising multiple high-calibre software products.
- Hands-on experience with cloud-based services, prioritising Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Skilled manager and leader, with proven ability to build, delegate, inspire, and guide teams across diverse projects.
- An exceptional communicator adept at influencing and engaging stakeholders at all levels.
