Lead Network Engineer - Secure Infrastructure
Are you a Network Engineer looking to modernise enterprise networks through automation?
You’ll be joining a dedicated network team based in Salisbury, working as part of a wider platform engineering function within a highly secure environment.
This Senior Network Engineer role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge network platforms supporting critical defence activities, while developing skills alongside the organisation’s shift towards automation and software-driven approaches.
You’ll collaborate closely with colleagues and customers, contributing to meaningful work centred around reliability, security, and continuous improvement—ideal for those who are curious, proactive, and keen to build on existing expertise.
You’ll be based near Salisbury, with an expectation to work on-site three days per week.
About the Role
You’ll be a pivotal member of a network engineering team within an Aerospace, Defence and Security environment, contributing to the design, deployment, and support of next-generation network platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the design, build, deployment, and support of enterprise network platforms.
- Drive automation adoption using tools like Ansible and Terraform.
- Support operational requirements in a fast-paced, secure environment.
- Investigate complex network issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement solutions.
- Proactively monitor and maintain production systems, managing escalations effectively.
- Mentor colleagues and contribute to service improvements and innovation within the team.

Requirements
Essential Criteria
- Cisco network technologies expertise, including routing, switching, firewalls, and wireless solutions.
- Strong command of networking fundamentals, such as TCP/IP, VLANs, DHCP, DNS, and ACLs.
- Experience with automation or scripting (e.g., Ansible, Python, Bash, or PowerShell).
- Knowledge of routing protocols, such as BGP, and network segmentation via VRFs.
- CCNA certification with CCNP either achieved or in progress.
- Ability to produce technical documentation, including network designs and root cause analysis reports.
Nice-to-Have
- Exposure to cloud networking (Azure or AWS).
- Experience within an ITIL framework.
- Familiarity with software-defined networking technologies, such as Cisco ACI or VMware NSX.

Location & Benefits
- Location: Based near Salisbury, with 3 days per week expected on-site.
- Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent.
- Security Clearance: Requires or must be eligible for Developed Vetting (DV).
- Salary: Competitive range up to £65,000, dependent on experience.
- Car Allowance: £5,400 per year.
- Annual Leave: 25 days, with the option to buy additional days.
- Benefits: Private medical insurance, life assurance, pension scheme, and a generous Flexible Benefits Fund.
