Lead Oracle Infrastructure Engineer
SC-Cleared Lead Oracle Infrastructure Engineer (2-Month Contract Transitioning to 12M)
We’re seeking an SC-cleared Lead Oracle Infrastructure Engineer with deep expertise in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and Exadata to join a major UK government organisation on an initial 2-month contract, transitioning to a 12-month contract under the following terms:
- Hybrid working (50% remote), with on-site options at Blackpool or Newcastle offices
- Daily rate: £650–700. Inside IR35.
- Mission-critical environment where reliability, security, and innovation drive success.
About the Role
You’ll provide technical leadership across Oracle and cloud platforms, supporting operational delivery and strategic infrastructure modernisation at a public-sector organisation responsible for delivering core digital services.

Responsibilities
As the Lead Oracle Infrastructure Engineer, your core accountabilities include:
Strategy & Technical Leadership
- Drive OCI adoption, refining service design, optimisation, and upgrade roadmaps
- Advise engineering teams on architectural best practices, including resilience planning
- Shape infrastructure strategy, cost-modeling, and capacity planning for mission-critical systems

Operational Excellence
- Own the delivery, support, and performance tuning of Oracle RDBMS 11.2–23ai deployments (RAC, Data Guard, MGMT DBs)
- Provide senior escalation for complex OCI/Exadata incidents and P1 incidents
- Lead automation and IaC adoption, leveraging Terraform and Ansible for deployments and troubleshooting
Mentorship & Knowledge Transfer
- Develop domestic OCI expertise within the project team
- Champion continuous improvement in database operations, including backup/DR mechanisms
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Engage with internal teams, suppliers, and government IT security units to align solutions with regulatory requirements
- Champion secure authentication and data protection best practices (e.g. TDE, TLS, IAM)
- Assist in risk assessment and design of mitigation strategies
Profile & Requirements
We’re looking for an experienced Oracle cloud/infrastructure specialist with:
- SC security clearance (mandatory)
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in:
- Oracle Database Administration (RAC, Data Guard, RMAN, OEM, OCI)
- Exadata Environments: Performance tuning, storage optimisation, detailed sizing prophecies
- Mission-critical OCI/Exadata expertise:
- Advanced expertise in ASM, AFD, TAF, replication tools (GoldenGate/Datapump); familiarity with ZDM advantageous
- Hands-on database migration and replication across multi-cloud landscapes
- Security & Networking: OCI network policies, zero-trust principles, PKI auth, and secure isolation of sensitive workloads
- Automation and DevOps: Terraform/Ansible expertise, with focus on repeatable, fault-tolerant deployments
- OS/Enterprise Complexity: Linux/AIX administration, with a focus on shadow/session monitoring and backup integrity across hybrid environments
