Lead Packaging Designer – 12-Month Fixed Term Contract At Kellanova, we're shaping the future of snacking


About the Role

At Kellanova, we shape the future of snacking through innovation, sustainability, and trusted expertise. We are seeking a Lead Packaging Designer for a 12-month fixed-term contract to join our Packaging R&D team. This highly visible role blends technical expertise, industry engagement, and strategic influence across our packaging portfolio, helping us achieve our goal of becoming the most trusted packaging team in the industry.

Based across Media City, Haydock with flexible homeworking and opportunities to travel across Europe, you’ll lead packaging regulatory compliance, collaborating with R&D, Regulatory, Public Affairs, Sustainability, Supply Chain, and external industry bodies. Your role is to anticipate legislative changes, assess business impacts, and drive proactive regulatory and sustainability solutions that shape the future of Kellanova’s packaging.


A Taste Of What You’ll Be Responsible For

  • Packaging Regulatory Leadership

    • Monitor emerging and existing legislation
    • Translate complex regulatory requirements into clear, actionable insights for the packaging and business teams
  • Industry Representation

    • Act as a key technical representative with:
      • External trade bodies and industry partners
      • Internal governance forums
      • Spearhead Kellanova's positioning and voice in packaging industry discussions

  • Risk & Issue Management

    • Evaluate and assess regulatory and packaging-related risks
    • Lead cross-functional action teams to resolve challenges and capitalise on opportunities proactively
  • Technical Data & Insights

    • Drive the development and maintenance of technical packaging databases to inform strategic decisions
  • Sustainability & Compliance Strategy

    • Support diverse initiatives, including:
      • Packaging waste regulations
      • Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) requirements
      • Future legislative roadmaps

Requirements

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Packaging, Regulatory Affairs, Product Design, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

Experience

  • Significant experience acting as a technical expert within Packaging Technology, preferably in food packaging or supply chain roles.
  • Proven ability to:
    • Interpret packaging regulations (corepotential laws, materials restrictions, recyclability criteria, etc.)
    • Represent business interests externally (trade bodies, industry associations, consultancies, and regulatory bodies)
    • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of:
      • Packaging materials and structures
      • Manufacturing processes
      • Packaging legal frameworks (e.g., Recycling Directives, FCM regulations)
      • Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)
      • Sustainability frameworks and certifications (e.g., EcoVadis, FEMAS)
  • Skills to:
    • Handle complex technical data, applying analytical methodologies
    • Develop data-driven recommendations
    • Troubleshoot issues and solve packaging development challenges
