Lead Packaging Designer – Fixed Term Contract (12 Months)

At Kellanova, we're shaping the future of snacking through innovation, sustainability, and trusted expertise. We are looking for a Lead Packaging Designer on a 12-month fixed-term contract to join our Packaging R&D team, where you'll play a critical role in driving packaging regulatory compliance and helping us achieve our vision of being the most trusted packaging team in the industry.

This is a highly visible role that combines technical expertise, industry engagement, and strategic influence across our packaging portfolio.

Location: Based across Media City and Haydock, with flexible home working and opportunities to travel across Europe.

About the Role

You'll serve as a key regulatory and packaging subject matter expert, partnering with R&D, Regulatory, Public Affairs, Sustainability, Supply Chain, and external industry bodies to:

  • Anticipate legislative changes
  • Assess business impact
  • Drive proactive solutions supporting compliance and sustainability ambitions
  • Help shape the future of packaging across our portfolio

Key Responsibilities

  • Packaging Regulatory Leadership

    • Lead the packaging regulatory agenda by monitoring emerging and existing legislation
    • Translate complex requirements into clear insights and actions for the Packaging team
  • Industry Representation

    • Act as a key technical representative with external trade bodies, industry partners, and internal governance forums
    • Ensure Kellanova’s perspective is heard and understood

  • Risk & Issue Management

    • Evaluate regulatory and packaging-related risks
    • Conduct issue assessments and lead cross-functional action teams
    • Proactively address challenges and opportunities
  • Technical Data & Insights

    • Drive the creation and maintenance of technical packaging databases supporting informed decision-making
  • Sustainability & Compliance Strategy

    • Support compliance and sustainability initiatives, including:
      • Packaging waste regulations
      • Extended producer responsibility requirements
      • Future legislative roadmaps

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging, Regulatory Affairs, Product Design, or a related technical discipline or equivalent technical expertise
  • Significant experience acting as a technical expert within Packaging Technology
  • Experience interpreting packaging regulations and representing business interests with:
    • Trade bodies
    • External organisations
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Packaging materials
    • Structures
    • Manufacturing processes
    • Packaging development principles
  • Deep understanding of:
    • Regulatory requirements
    • Food contact material legislation
    • Sustainability frameworks
    • Certification requirements
    • Extended producer responsibility regulations
  • Experience handling technical data
    • Applying analytical methodologies
    • Developing data-driven recommendations
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities within packaging or technical development environments
