The Role

To lead and deliver a high-quality player development programme that identifies, recruits, develops, and retains high-potential players, ensuring effective progression through the Academy pathway.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic planning, coordination, and delivery of the training and games programme for the phase.
  • Oversee the implementation and continuous development of the Development Centre programme, ensuring alignment with club objectives.
  • Ensure all coaching practices are fully aligned with the Academy curriculum, promoting consistency in playing philosophy and player development.
  • Work collaboratively with the recruitment and scouting team to identify, attract, and retain high-potential players.
  • Create and deliver a varied engagement programme, including additional events and experiences (e.g. matchday experiences, multi-sport activities) to enhance player enjoyment and club connection.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with players and parents, providing regular feedback on development and progression.
  • Manage and support player transitions between age groups and phases, ensuring readiness across technical, physical, and psychosocial areas.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to coaching staff within the phase, ensuring high standards of delivery and player care.

The Person

  • Proven experience working with and developing high-potential young players.
  • Demonstrable experience in designing and implementing long-term player development programmes.
  • Strong track record in talent identification and recruitment within youth football.
  • UEFA B Licence (essential).
  • FA Advanced Youth Award (desirable).
  • Strong understanding of child development and age-appropriate coaching methodologies.
  • Excellent communication skills, with experience engaging effectively with parents and stakeholders.
  • Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple programmes and responsibilities with discretion and professionalism.
  • Knowledge of grassroots football within the North West (desirable).
