Location: Solihull, B90 Company: Autoscan UK Limited Pay Rate: £38–£40 per hour (Limited Contract) Duration: 3-month Fixed-Term Contract (FTC)

The Role
We are seeking a leader to head our Plant Quality Engineering team, providing technical guidance, coaching, and performance development needed to establish a proactive quality culture across manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities

Ensure processes consistently meet safety, quality, and customer requirements by:
- Supporting production teams through daily reviews
- Managing escalations
- Presenting performance updates to senior management, contributing to strategic planning

Embed quality into manufacturing from launch by:
- Supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) activities
- Collaborating with Supplier Quality to resolve external bottlenecks
- Coordinating responses to customer quality and warranty concerns

Maintain compliance with:
- ISO 9001
- Automotive quality standards and best practices

Lead continuous improvement and structured problem-solving via methodologies such as:
- 8D, A3, 5 Whys, Ishikawa, and DMAIC

Manage the entire CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Action) process from containment to validation.

Develop and maintain critical quality documentation, including:
- Process Control Plans
- PFMEAs (Potential Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)
- Inspection standards

Monitor manufacturing performance via KPIs and statistical analysis, acting on trends.

Lead process validation activities, including:
- Capability studies (Cp/Cpk)
- MSA (Measurement Systems Analysis)
- Process audits
- Layered Process Audits (LPA)
- Internal manufacturing reviews

Drive initiatives to:
- Reduce defects
- Improve first-time-through quality
- Lower cost of poor quality
Additional Notes
All candidates must:
- Possess a valid right to work in the UK.
- Undergo a standard criminal record check (DBS).
Skills & Experience
Essential
-
Degree in:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Manufacturing Engineering
- Quality Engineering
- Or a related discipline
-
Significant experience in:
-
Manufacturing quality engineering in:
- Automotive
- Motorcycle
- Aerospace
- High-value engineering industries
-
Leading or mentoring quality engineering teams
-
-
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including:
- Machining
- Assembly
- Fabrication
- Paint

Proven experience with:
- Structured problem-solving techniques:
- 8D, 5 Whys, Ishikawa
- FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)
- Control Plan
- SPC (Statistical Process Control)
- MSA (Measurement Systems Analysis)
- PPAP (Production Part Approval Process)
- Structured problem-solving techniques:

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

Ability to:
- Influence cross-functional teams
- Drive quality improvements
Desirable

Lead Auditor qualification

Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt

Knowledge of:
- IATF 16949 core quality tools

Experience within:
- Premium automotive
- Motorcycle manufacturing

Familiarity with:
- Digital quality systems
- Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES)
