Lead Product Manager, Patent Search
The Lead Product Manager, Patent Search is responsible for defining and executing the vision, strategy, and roadmap for next-generation patent search and discovery experiences within Derwent Patent Search, formerly Derwent Innovation.
This role will lead the evolution of patent search from traditional query-driven workflows to AI-powered or agentic-supported experiences, enabling intellectual property professionals to discover, analyze, validate, and act upon patent information with greater efficiency and confidence.
The successful candidate will be part of Clarivate’s Patent Intelligence, Search, and Analytics product organization, reporting to the Senior Director, Product Management. They will own a major product area and drive innovation across product, technology, data science, and content teams to deliver transformational capabilities for corporations, law firms, government agencies, and research organizations worldwide. This is a highly strategic role combining deep product leadership, customer-centric innovation, and practical AI application to address complex patent search and analysis challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and execute the long-term vision and strategy for Derwent Patent Search
- Drive the evolution of patent search experiences, transitioning from keyword and Boolean search to AI-assisted and agentic-supported workflows
- Identify customer pain points and uncover opportunities to transform patent discovery, investigation, and validation processes
- Develop differentiated search experiences to strengthen Clarivate’s competitive positioning within the patent information market
- Design user experiences that balance automation, transparency, explainability, and professional trust
- Champion customer-centric roadmap decisions and represent user needs across the organization

Requirements
Candidates should have:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Information Science, Business, Law, Intellectual Property, or a related discipline
- 10+ years of product management experience, with increasing levels of strategic responsibility and business ownership
- Proven track record of leading major product areas, platforms, or multi-year product initiatives within B2B software environments
- Experience launching innovative customer-facing products that deliver measurable adoption, retention, and business outcomes
- Strong collaboration with engineering, UX, data science, and commercial teams to deliver complex, scalable solutions
- Ability to define product strategy, drive roadmap decisions, and influence executive stakeholders
- Strong understanding of customer discovery, experimentation, product analytics, and outcome-driven product management
Preferred Experience
Additional strengths include:
- Experience working with intellectual property (IP), patents, trademarks, or technical information products
- Support for patent attorneys, patent searchers, IP analysts, R&D professionals, innovation teams, or technology transfer organizations
- Development of AI-enabled products, particularly those utilizing Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), or autonomous agent frameworks
- Familiarity with semantic search, enterprise search, knowledge graphs, ranking systems, or recommendation technologies
- Understanding of patent data, patent classification systems, legal event data, citations, and patent landscapes
- Experience designing responsible AI, governance, explainability, and trust frameworks for enterprise software
- Working knowledge of cloud platforms, APIs, analytics tooling, and modern software delivery practices

Work Arrangements
- Full-time, permanent role
- Primarily London-based, working core business hours with flexibility for global time zones
- Hybrid model: 2 days per week in the London office, the rest remote
