Lead Product Manager, Patent Search
The Lead Product Manager, Patent Search is responsible for defining and executing the vision, strategy, and roadmap for next-generation patent search and discovery experiences within Derwent Patent Search (formerly Derwent Innovation). This role will lead the transformation of patent search from traditional query-driven workflows to AI-powered or agentic-supported experiences that help intellectual property (IP) professionals discover, analyze, validate, and act on patent information more efficiently and confidently.
The successful candidate will:
- Report to the Senior Director, Product Management at Clarivate.
- Own a major product area and drive innovation across product, technology, data science, and content teams.
- deliver transformational capabilities for corporations, law firms, government agencies, and research organizations worldwide.
This is a highly strategic role combining:
- Deep product leadership
- Customer-centric innovation
- Practical implementation of AI technologies to address patent search and analysis challenges
The Lead PM will independently shape roadmap priorities, identify market opportunities, and influence product strategy across the Clarivate IP portfolio.

10+ years of product management experience, with increasing levels of strategic responsibility and business ownership

Proven ability to lead major product areas, platforms, or multi-year initiatives within B2B software environments

Track record of launching innovative customer-facing products driving:
- Measurable adoption
- Retention
- Business outcomes

Experience collaborating with:
- Engineering
- UX
- Data Science
- Commercial teams

Self-directed strategy definition, roadmap decision-making, and executive alignment

Strong customer discovery, experimentation, product analytics, and outcome-driven product management
Preferred (Not Essential)

Experience in:
- IP, patents, trademarks, scientific, legal, or technical information products
- Working with patent attorneys, searchers, lawyers, IP analysts, R&D professionals, or innovation teams

Background in:
- AI-enabled products, including LLMs, RAG, autonomous agents, or copilot systems
- Semantic search, enterprise search, knowledge graphs, and recommendation technologies

Knowledge of:
- Patent data, classification systems, legal events, citation analysis, and patent landscapes
- Responsible AI, governance, explainability, and trust frameworks

Practical understanding of:
- Cloud platforms, APIs, analytics tooling, and agile/DevOps delivery practices

Key Responsibilities
Define and execute the long-term vision and strategy for Derwent Patent Search, including:
- Evolving search experiences from keyword/Boolean-based to AI-assisted / agentic workflows
- Identifying customer pain points in prior art discovery, validation, and IP strategy
- Delivering market-positioning advantages in the patent search space
- Designing transparent, explainable UX that balances automation with professional trust
- Advocating for customer needs, bridging gaps between teams to drive impact

With a 60-year legacy, Clarivate has pioneered patent search, analytics, and intelligence methodologies. The team operates at scale, serving 5,000+ global clients, and drives customer-centric innovation through continuous experimentation.
Hours & Work Arrangement
- Full-time, permanent position (London-based with global flexibility)
- Hybrid model: 2 days per week in office, rest remote
- Core hours required, with support for crossover with global times
