Lead Project Manager
Lead Project Manager – Offshore Delivery – Western Isles
Location: Must be based in Perth, Glasgow, Aberdeen, or Inverness | Open to applicants from the Western Isles Salary: £66,100–£99,100 + car/allowance + bonus + benefits package
The Role
Join SSEN Transmission, leading the delivery of customer connections in the Western Isles—critical for Scotland’s Net-Zero ambitions.
As Lead Project Manager, you’ll:
- Procure and manage contracts to ensure timely deployment
- Build key stakeholder relationships (contractors, local staff, government agencies)
- Oversee execution phases, aligning teams across the supply chain and internal/external interfaces
- Ensure safe, on-schedule, budget-controlled delivery with compliance to CDM regulations
- Travel regularly to site for visits, engagement, and oversight
Given SSEN’s expanding offshore projects, this role offers growth opportunities within the transmission business.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory & Financial Accountability
- Secure project funding via regulatory submissions
- Ensure project accountability to cost, schedule, quality, and Net-Zero goals
Project Delivery Leadership
- Plan, monitor, and drive project execution with structured methodologies
- Align delivery with Project Execution Plans, Procurement & Commercial Strategy, and CDM safety standards
- Forecast and manage budget (ideally £100m+ experience)
- Handle and prioritise delivery risks/issues through analysis

Team & Safety Leadership
- Lead enthusiastic, skilled, and organised teams with competence in safety and engineering practices
- Mentor/direct reports, ensuring alignment with SSE values and SSE Large Capital Projects (LCP) governance
- Uphold safety, health, and environmental compliance at all operational levels
Stakeholder & Commercial Relationships
- Develop collaborative stakeholder networks (internal/external)
- Manage contractual relationships (preferable NEC3 experience)
Requirements
Professional Experience
- Proven record delivering projects within transmission, construction, oil & gas, nuclear, or utilities sectors
- £100m+ budget management experience, with regulatory programme governance knowledge
- Engineering/construction background with contractual and cost control skills
Critical Skills
- Project management methodology, including NEC3 contracting
- CDM 2015 awareness and environmental safety legislation support
- Strong stakeholder trust-building across global/diverse teams and locations
- Pro-active problem-solving for offsite/onsite project execution challenges
