Lead Project Manager – Flood Mitigation Programme
We’re looking for a Lead Project Manager to spearhead the delivery of our Flood Mitigation Programme within the Rivers & Flooding team. You’ll lead a team of Project Managers and support staff, overseeing a portfolio of projects that reduce flood risk, safeguard customers, and build long-term community resilience across our region.
You’ll take ownership of programme delivery from concept to completion — providing leadership, commercial oversight, and assurance across design, construction, commissioning, and handover. This is a role where technical expertise meets people leadership, stakeholder engagement, and visible safety management.
Location & Reporting
- Location: Raynesway office, Derby
- Reports to: Business Leader for Rivers and Flooding
Key Responsibilities
- Own programme delivery end-to-end, providing leadership, commercial oversight, and assurance.
- Scope definition and design coordination to align with objectives.
- NEC contract management and adherence to agreements.
- Customer and stakeholder engagement, ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety requirements.
- Risk management, particularly around customer and community impacts.
- Work closely with supply chain and design partners to meet milestones, quality, and health & safety standards.

What You’ll Bring to the Role
We’re looking for someone with the technical capability, resilience, and people skills to lead meaningful flood-related projects that matter to our customers and communities.
Essential Experience & Skills

Extensive experience in flood risk, drainage, water engineering, or wider infrastructure delivery.

Strong understanding of flood-mitigation techniques, surface water management, and drainage systems.

Significant experience delivering projects or programmes under the NEC contract framework.

Proven ability to deliver high-volume, medium-risk projects within a regulated or infrastructure setting.

Strong programme-level risk-management experience, especially involving customer and community impacts.

Solid working knowledge of engineering standards, building regulations, and environmental best practice.

Experience leading and coaching multi-disciplinary teams, driving safety, quality, and performance.

Practical leadership and compliance experience under CDM regulations.

Experience working closely with supply-chain and design partners to meet milestones, quality expectations, and H&S standards.

Essential Qualifications
- Associate Driving Licence – Full UK licence.
Desirable Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering, Construction, Project Management, or an Environmental discipline.
- APM (Association for Project Management) or NEC accreditation.
- Professional membership (e.g., ICE, CIWEM, IMechE), or progressing toward it.
