Lead Python Engineer

Senior/Lead Python Engineer (Agentic Tooling Specialist)

We’re looking for a strong Senior/Lead Python Engineer who thinks agentically—using AI and automation as a core part of the development process to build faster, smarter, and more impactful solutions.

This isn’t just about shipping features; it’s about embedding agentic engineering into every layer of production systems – not as a novelty, but as a core architectural principle.

About the Role

You’ll be deeply embedded into the product team of one of the UK’s leading procurement platforms for construction projects.

What You’ll Do

  • Build Python services and AI-native features that sit at the heart of the platform.
  • Work hands-on with a high-traffic, live production system—not a greenfield project. This means working closely with PHP/Laravel, not just Python.
  • Ship agentic engineering solutions in production—tools and features that move faster and deliver better outcomes, not just repetitive tasks.
  • Collaborate on a scalable, cloud-native architecture (Azure).
  • Have meaningful influence over how things are built, deployed, and evolve—not just what gets delivered.
  • Work across frontend boundaries (React.js) when necessary to bridge Python and user-facing systems.

Requirements

Your Technical Skill Set

  • Senior or Lead Full-Stack Python Experience: You’ve built, debugged, and shipped at scale in commercial, production environments.
  • Agentic Engineering in Action: You’ve used AI and automation to build real features—not just block commands. This is taken seriously here.
  • Cloud-Native Azure Expertise: Strong experience in designing, deploying, and maintaining cloud services.
  • PHP/Laravel Fluency: You understand how to interact with and contribute to an existing Laravel codebase, including its APIs and integrations.
  • Frontend Comfort: You’ve worked with React.js enough to debug, extend, or integrate Python/AI components alongside the frontend.
  • Systemic Engineering: You move quickly in production, not just in dev environments. If your solution isn’t already used by real users, it’s not finished.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Who You Are

  • Ownership without Micromanagement: You can self-navigate and take accountability without needing every step scripted.
  • Passion for Craft: You care deeply about clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
  • Collaborative Mindset: You enjoy sharing knowledge, helping junior engineers, and influencing without gatekeeping.
  • Balanced Work-Life Ethic: You value growth and variety—not just getting stuck in the same niche.

The Work Environment

What You’ll Gain

  • Rampant Real Engineering

    • Work on a real, high-load platform with tens of thousands of users who rely on it daily.
    • Solutions must handle real-world complexity, from relevant volto-locking exchanges to private message silos.
    • You’ll collaborate with a team that takes pride in their work—not cut corners.
  • Agentic Engineering as Core

    • You’ll live in a paradigm where AI tools are part of designing, building, and deploying—not “IPAS” for developers, but a production-grade driver of efficiency.
    • The skills you build here are rare, sought-after, and actionable in other roles beyond this one.
  • Variety without Over-Specialisation

    • Avoid the trap of going deep forever into one sub-system. Work across multiple client contexts and project needs over time.
