As We Continue to Deliver Our Critical Decommissioning Mission

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Risk Practitioner to join our Programme Management Office. This role will provide leadership, specialist advice, and constructive challenge across project and programme risk management, supporting the Head of Profession – Risk in delivering a consistent, effective, and continuously improving risk management service across NRS.

What You'll Be Doing

The successful candidate will lead and support the deployment of risk management capability across the organisation, ensuring risks and opportunities are identified, assessed, escalated, managed, and reported effectively. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and supporting the deployment of risk management capability across the organisation.
  • Working closely with project teams, sites, and senior stakeholders to strengthen decision-making, improve delivery confidence, and ensure compliance with company standards, industry best practice, and assurance expectations.
  • Acting as a subject matter expert for advanced risk analysis, supporting complex cost and schedule quantitative risk assessments.
  • Coaching, facilitating, and engaging with industry and NDA-led forums to drive the adoption of best practice, champion innovation, and help develop risk management capability across the organisation.

Specific tasks will include:

  • Delivering and assuring a compliant, effective, and continuously improving risk management service across the NRS estate.
  • Providing specialist expertise in quantitative risk analysis, including complex schedule and cost modelling.
  • Leading and facilitating risk identification workshops, working with project managers and risk owners to analyse threats and opportunities, develop mitigation strategies, and enhance risk management capability.
  • Assisting the NRS Head of Profession – Risk in the leadership, training, mentoring, and deployment of fellow practitioners within the risk team.
  • Representing NRS within NDA and cross-OpCo forums, sharing best practice, and influencing the development of risk processes and tools.

Who We're Looking For

We're seeking a confident and knowledgeable risk management professional who combines strong technical expertise with the ability to influence, engage, and develop others. Key requirements include:

  • A relevant degree, professional qualification (such as the Institute of Risk Management), or demonstrable practical industry experience relevant to the role.
  • Experience in leadership with excellent communication and presentational skills to engage positively with a range of stakeholders and capable of developing others through coaching, training, and mentoring.
  • Significant experience in project controls and quantitative risk analysis within highly regulated industries or similarly complex project delivery environments, and competent in the use of risk and assumption databases, with hands-on experience in SCQRA modelling techniques for contingency provisioning.

Additional Notes

  • Successful candidates must have unrestricted access to working in the UK and must be located within a commutable distance of one of our NRS sites.
  • Expectations are to work there a minimum of 2 days per week, noting our working hours are 0730 – 1700, Monday to Thursday, on-site or working remotely.
  • Flexible arrangements can be discussed during the interview process.
  • All successful candidates will need to provide proof of identity, eligibility to work in the UK, and employment/education history (typically covering the last 3–5 years) in line with NRS Baseline Security requirements. Some roles may also require full Security Clearance.
