Lead Rotary Driller Geotron UK Ltd – Full-Time Remote Role

Company Description

Geotron UK Ltd is an independent specialist geotechnical and environmental contractor providing land drilling and comprehensive ground investigation services. Starting with a single site crew, the company has grown steadily and now employs a team of around 30 engineers, managers, and support staff.

The company continually invests in modern rigs, transport trucks, and support vehicles to remain at the forefront of drilling technology, work efficiency, and innovation. Currently, it operates:

  • 9 rotary rigs
  • 4 cable percussion rigs
  • 3 window sampling rigs

Supported by a large fleet of transport trucks, vans, pickups, trailers, and ancillary plant, it offers diverse project opportunities for drilling professionals.


Role Description

The Lead Rotary Driller is a full-time remote role responsible for planning, leading, and executing rotary drilling operations on geotechnical and environmental ground investigation projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up rigs and associated equipment
  • Supervise drilling activities
  • Ensure samples are collected, logged, and stored according to project specifications and safety standards

Coordination includes:

  • Leading site crews
  • Communicating with project managers and engineers
  • Adhering to environmental and health and safety regulations

The role also involves:

  • Troubleshooting equipment issues
  • Maintaining rig performance
  • Contributing to continuous improvement in drilling methods and efficiency
  • Supporting training and guidance for less experienced staff

Qualifications & Experience

  • Strong experience in rotary drilling, including rig operation, setup, and maintenance for geotechnical and environmental investigations
  • Proficiency in:
    • Sampling techniques
    • Basic logging
    • Handling of soil and rock samples per project and regulatory requirements

  • Sound understanding of health, safety, and environmental standards, with:

    • A proven record of safe site leadership and risk management
  • Ability to:

    • Supervise site crews
    • Coordinate logistics
    • Communicate effectively with engineers, managers, and clients
  • Ability to:

    • Work remotely and independently
    • Manage schedules
    • Adapts to changing site and project conditions
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel to various project sites as required

  • Desirable qualifications:

    • Relevant vocational qualifications or certifications in:
      • Drilling
      • Geotechnical operations
      • Construction
  • Preferred prior experience:

    • Geotechnical drilling or ground investigation projects (UK or similar environments)
