About the Role
Wise Technical is seeking an experienced Lead Simulation and Emulation Development Engineer to lead the design, architecture, and delivery of emulation models for automated baggage handling systems (BHS). This senior, hands-on technical leadership role requires defining standards, ensuring quality, and directly developing large-scale virtual emulation models from scratch using Emulate3D.
The ideal candidate will drive model accuracy across the project lifecycle—from concept and control validation through to virtual commissioning and PLC verification, with direct oversight of the Investors in Logistics and Cargo (LLC) Product Manager and reporting to the Senior Manager for line management. Collaboration with partners and emulation leads will be a core requirement.
Key Responsibilities
🔹 Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Lead the architecture and design of complex Emulate3D emulation models for baggage handling systems.
- Establish modelling standards, naming conventions, and best practices for emulation and simulation teams.
- Serves as the primary technical point of contact for simulation and emulation matters, working with the LLC Product Manager.
- Provide technical direction and mentorship to engineers, ensuring model accuracy, performance, and maintainability.

🔹 Emulation & Model Development
- Design and build 3D emulation models for:
- Conveyor systems
- Sortation equipment
- Diverters
- Screening machines
- All material handling components using Emulate3D
- Implement kinematic and operational logic replicating real-world mechanical behavior, sensor functions, and fault simulations.
- Configure control system connections via PLC I/O, OPC, or Emulate3D’s native tools.
- Develop bag-flow and induction logic to simulate real-world operations like bag tracking, singulation, sortation, and screening.
- Support virtual commissioning by validating PLC applications against emulation models.
- Build and maintain reusable model libraries and templates.
- Optimise models for high-performance throughput testing.
🔹 Project & Delivery Management
- Produce and maintain model design documentation (scope, assumptions, data sources, validation records).
- Lead model-based testing and FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) activities.
- Coordinate with engineering, PLC, and mechanical teams to capture latest system design updates in models.
- Proactively identify technical risks and resolve early with Product Manager and Senior Manager.
☑️ Team & Stakeholder Management
- Line-manage engineers (Junior & Mid-Level), facilitating their professional development.
- Liaise with PLC, mechanical, electrical, and project teams for coordinated system delivery.
- Act as Wise Technical’s technical liaison in client/vendor discussions on simulation/Virt Команда.

Requirements
📋 Essential Experience & Qualifications
✔ 8+ years in emulation model development (building models from scratch, not just customisation). ✔ Proven expertise in Emulate3D, including 3D modelling, kinematics, control logic, and interfaces. ✔ Experience in conveyor-based material handling/BHS emulation. ✔ Direct experience linking emulation models to real PLC controllers for virtual commissioning. ✔ Strong PLC logic knowledge to interpret/validate behaviours in emulation environments. ✔ Networking protocols for controls familiarity: OPC, EtherNET/IP, Profinet, TCP/IP. ✔ Experience producing technical documentation:
- Model scope, assumptions, data source validation. ✔ Degree (or equivalent experience) in:
- Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
- Mechatronics
- Computer Science
- Related industry-applicable qualification. ✔ Relocation readiness: Based at London Heathrow (LHR) minimum 4 days/week. ✔ UK working rights + eligibility for airside/airport security clearance.
💡 Desirable (but bonus)
- Past experience in the baggage screening or BHS industry (work with vendors like BEUMER, Vanderlande, Siemens Logistics).
- PLC scripting (Siemens S7 Platform, Rockwell).
- Demo3D scripting (C# or internal tools) to automate model configurations.
- Discrete event simulation or BHS capacity modelling.
- Version control and Emulate3D project lifecycle experience.
- Previous technical leadership, principal engineer, or team management role.
