Lead Simulation and Emulation Development Engineer
Lead Simulation and Emulation Development Engineer
About the Role
Wise Technical is seeking an experienced Lead Simulation and Emulation Development Engineer to lead the design, architecture, and delivery of emulation models used to develop, test, and commission automated baggage handling systems (BHS). This is a senior, hands-on technical leadership role, responsible for setting the standards, structure, and quality of simulation and emulation development.
The successful candidate will:
- Own the technical delivery of emulation models across the project lifecycle—from concept and control system validation to virtual commissioning and PLC software testing.
- Ensure that emulation models accurately represent mechanical, controls, and operational behaviours of baggage handling systems.
- Provide technical leadership to the wider simulation and emulation function, collaborating closely with the LLC Product Manager and reporting to the LLC Solutions Senior Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Lead the architecture and design of large-scale emulation models for baggage handling systems, built from scratch in Emulate3D.
- Define and enforce modelling standards, including structure, naming conventions, and best practices across the simulation function.
- Provide technical direction and mentorship to simulation/emulation engineers by reviewing models for accuracy, performance, and maintainability.
- Act as the senior technical point of contact, aligning model development with product and project priorities alongside the LLC Product Manager.
Emulation & Model Development
-
Design and build 3D emulation models of:
- Conveyor systems
- Sortation equipment
- Diverters
- Screening machines
- Other material handling equipment using Emulate3D
-
Develop kinematic and behavioural logic for equipment, replicating:
- Real-world mechanical operation
- Sensor behaviour
- Fault conditions

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
