About the Role
We're looking for an experienced Lead Software & DevOps Engineer with a strong background in Application Security and DevSecOps to lead the design and implementation of enterprise-scale security solutions. This is an exciting opportunity to shape security architecture, drive innovation, and lead a team delivering secure cloud and on-premises platforms.
Lead Software & DevOps Engineer (Security)
📍 Location: Sheffield, UK (Hybrid)
💼 Employment Type: Subcontract - Inside IR35
What You'll Do
- Design and implement end-to-end security solutions across cloud and on-premises environments.
- Lead the development of secure frameworks, reusable security patterns, and reference architectures.
- Drive enterprise-wide adoption of DevSecOps best practices and secure engineering standards.
- Lead security initiatives across Identity & Access Management (IAM), secrets management, CI/CD pipeline security, and software supply chain security.
- Build and manage secure secrets management solutions using HashiCorp Vault and native cloud vault technologies.
- Conduct Proof of Concepts (PoCs) and evaluate emerging security technologies.
- Collaborate with platform, infrastructure, and development teams to address security gaps and implement effective controls.
- Lead a team of engineers, providing technical guidance, mentoring, and delivery oversight.
- Produce high-quality technical documentation, architecture designs, and implementation guides.
- Influence technical strategy and architectural decisions as a senior engineering leader.

Required Skills & Experience

- Strong experience in Application Security, including:
- Application Security Frameworks
- Threat Modelling
- Secure SDLC
- DevSecOps
- Application Security Architecture Reviews
- Hands-on experience securing CI/CD pipelines and implementing DevSecOps practices.
- Expertise in IAM, secrets management, key management, and HashiCorp Vault.
- Strong experience designing and securing enterprise solutions across AWS, Azure, and GCP, as well as on-premises environments.
- Experience with software supply chain security and cloud security best practices.
- Proven ability to lead engineering teams and deliver large-scale technical initiatives.
- Strong stakeholder management, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently while driving technical strategy and delivery.
