About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Engineer specializing in Golang to join our client’s dynamic cybersecurity team based in South West London. This is a pivotal role that offers the opportunity to influence the technical direction of a rapidly scaling organization focused on protecting critical infrastructure worldwide. As a Lead Principal Engineer, you will serve as the technical right hand to the Head of Development, taking ownership of architectural decisions, driving engineering standards, and fostering innovation through AI-assisted development. This position is ideal for an experienced engineer looking to make a significant impact by combining hands-on coding with strategic technical leadership. The role is office-based, requiring presence five days a week, and offers a competitive salary package ranging from £70,000 to £90,000 plus performance bonuses.

- Extensive commercial experience with Golang, demonstrating the ability to develop robust, scalable microservices and distributed systems.
- Proven track record of technical leadership, mentoring engineering teams, and influencing technical decisions.
- Deep understanding of system design principles, including API development, security, and performance optimization.
- Hands-on experience with containerization tools such as Docker, orchestration platforms like Kubernetes, and cloud-native technologies.
- Proficiency with databases including PostgreSQL and MongoDB, and familiarity with secure CI/CD pipelines.
- A security-first mindset aligned with industry standards such as OWASP, ISO 27001, or IEC 62443.
- Experience leveraging AI tools to accelerate software development processes.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to mentor and influence engineering teams effectively.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will undertake a range of responsibilities designed to shape the technical landscape of the organization, including:
- Collaborating closely with the Head of Development to define and implement technical solutions aligned with business objectives.
- Owning detailed system design, technical specifications, and architecture decisions to ensure scalable and secure software solutions.
- Leading backend development efforts using Golang, focusing on building secure, high-performance microservices and APIs.
- Mentoring engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, and raising engineering standards across the team.
- Promoting best practices in secure software engineering and DevSecOps to safeguard critical infrastructure systems.
- Driving innovation through AI-assisted development, including rapid prototyping, code reviews, and automation.
- Improving system performance, reliability, and maintainability through continuous improvement initiatives.
- Contributing to the development of secure, scalable distributed systems that meet industry security standards.
