Lead Software Engineer

Salary: £75,000 - £80,000 + Benefits

Location: Hybrid 1 day per week office-based in Milton Keynes

We are currently looking for a Lead Software Engineer to join a growing, technology-led SaaS organisation that is investing heavily in its engineering capability and modern cloud platform. This is an opportunity to join a collaborative, forward-thinking engineering team where you'll have genuine influence over technical direction rather than simply delivering features.

Reporting into the Head of Engineering, the Lead Software Engineer will play a pivotal role in shaping software architecture, establishing engineering best practice, and mentoring other engineers across the business. This is a hands-on technical leadership position where you'll work closely with Product, Engineering and business stakeholders to solve complex technical challenges whilst ensuring the platform remains scalable, secure and fit for future growth.

If you enjoy balancing strategic thinking with hands-on engineering, influencing technical decisions and helping teams deliver high-quality software, this Software Engineer opportunity offers the chance to make a significant impact within a business where technology is central to its success.

The Opportunity

As the Lead Software Engineer, you'll provide technical leadership across multiple projects while helping to shape the future direction of the engineering function. Key responsibilities include:

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
