Lead Software Engineer
Lead Software Engineer – Gamma
About the Role
At Gamma, we’re transforming how businesses connect and communicate globally through voice, data, and mobile solutions delivered across the UK, Germany, Spain, and the Benelux region.
This role is for a Lead Software Engineer who will lead the development and maintenance of Gamma’s Group Products suite, including:
- Proprietary OSS/BSS
- UCaaS & CCaaS solutions
Your primary responsibility? Delivering scalable, secure, high-performing systems while driving best practices, mentoring engineers, and impacting our product strategy at scale.
Key Responsibilities
As a Lead Software Engineer, your day-to-day will involve:

Technical Leadership
- Drive complex development for new features and existing systems using TypeScript, Node.js, and React.
- Work with product, architecture, and engineering teams to scope, plan, and estimate scalable and future-proof solutions.

System Design & Integration
- Design and build secure, high-performance APIs.
- Integrate third-party tools and services with gamma’s ecosystem.

Documentation & Collaboration
- Create and review detailed solution designs, accounting for security, performance, and system-wide effects.
- Lead code reviews, fostering high standards and mentoring engineers.

Operations & Reliability
- Apply site reliability engineering (SRE) principles to improve observability, resilience, and incident response.
- Monitor, profile, and optimise application performance, ensuring SLAs are met (including capacity planning).

- Process Improvement
- Identify and address technical debt, proposing improvements to systems, processes, and tooling.
Requirements
You don’t need every skill, but the following will help you thrive in this role:

Strong technical foundation
- TypeScript, Node.js, React/Angular (preferred) – deep working knowledge.
- Understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and API principles.

Scaling systems & tooling
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing (e.g., Jest, Playwright), and version control.
- Hands-on experience with AWS and cloud-based containerisation (e.g., Kubernetes).

Production expertise
- Proven track record running large-scale distributed systems.
- Debugging and performance optimisation skills.

Mentoring & leadership
- Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to technical decision-making.

Observability & SRE
- Knowledge of monitoring systems, observability, and site reliability engineering.

Bonus points for:
- Java experience.
- Experience with telecoms tech (e.g., VoIP, WebRTC).
