Lead Software Engineer / Developer (C# .Net Desktop Application)

About the Role
As a Lead Software Engineer, you’ll manage three Agile teams comprising around ten experienced software engineers, with responsibility for the flagship desktop insurance platform that handles 4 billion requests per month.
Key Responsibilities
- Play a key role in architecting, designing, and developing new features and enhancements.
- Ensure high levels of security, reliability, maintainability, usability, and performance.
- Collaborate with the Product Owner and other teams to ** influences design and technical choices**.
- Provide technical ownership in an Agile environment encouraging collaboration and continual improvement.
- Work in a performance-driven, technical leadership role with deep engineering engagement.

Location / Work Model
- Flexible hybrid model: Twice-weekly Reigate office meetings; remote work 3 days per week.
About You
You will demonstrate expertise in the following:
- C# .Net Core backend software development, with experience in large, scalable systems.
- Strong technical leadership (feature ownership rather than people management).
- Collaborative yet assertive: Able to push back and influence senior engineers.
- Advocate for clean, reusable, and maintainable code with a solid grasp of modern Microsoft software engineering best practices.
- Event-driven architecture knowledge.
- Strong computer science fundamentals:
- Object-Oriented Programming (OOP)
- Data Structures
- Design Patterns
- Algorithms
- CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) experience.
- Experience with Azure, SaaS, PaaS, and microservices.
- STEM degree (Computer Science or Mathematics preferred).
