Lead Software Engineer
Team Lead, Costing Framework EU – Kraken

About the Role
We’re seeking a Team Lead to drive our Costing Framework EU squad.
This framework powers Kraken’s billing system for metered energy consumption, enabling rapid deployments and large-scale impact. As Team Lead, you’ll:
- Partner with the Product Manager and APAC squad lead to prioritise and shape product development
- Balance operational effectiveness, team wellbeing, strategic alignment, and technical leadership
- Foster a culture that supports high-performing teams, top-tier systems, and sustainable growth
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Communication
- Present the team’s work clearly to stakeholders
- Communicate priorities, changes, and learnings transparently
- Advocate for the team while challenging ideas constructively
Team Management & Support
- Monitor workload, stress levels, and wellbeing
- Conduct 1:1s, providing mentorship and coaching
- Foster a collaborative, motivated team culture
- Make tough decisions that uplift the team and Kraken
Product & Delivery Oversight
- Align the team with long-term product vision
- Uphold technical excellence and encourage systems thinking
- Guides planning, delivery, sprint retros, and milestones

Strategic Decision-Making
- Assess resource allocation and trade-offs
- Contribute to hiring, talent development, and work distribution
- Clarify ambiguous or shifting priorities
Operational Excellence
- Oversee/delegate planning sessions, standups, and reviews
- Connect team goals to company objectives
- Partner with key stakeholders
- Remove blockers (technical, process, or people-related)
What You’ll Bring to the Role
Required
- Proven leadership with at least 3 direct reports
- 5+ years in software engineering (or equivalent)
- Ability to work fully asynchronously with different time zones
- Strategic thinker who translates vision into action
- Clear, direct communication skills
- Commitment to mentoring, advocacy, and team support
- Strong personal and organisational habits
This role is about empowering the team, not doing everything yourself. Your best work is in delegating, coaching, and enabling remarkable outputs—not buried in daily tasks.
Bonus (Not Mandatory)
- Experience leading cross-functional teams in fintech or energy tech
- Experience with billing/financial systems (or cost optimisation tools)
- Passion for shaping tech that drives carbon reduction
