#### About the Role

As a Lead Software Engineer within the Markets Technology team, you’ll architect and deliver secure, stable, and scalable technology solutions critical to JPMorgan Chase’s market-leading capabilities. Leveraging an agile, collaborative approach, you’ll partner across functions to develop trusted, high-performance applications. Melding technical excellence with business impact, your leadership will shape robust solutions and ensure continuous improvement in system reliability, performance, and scalability—fostering client success and sustained business growth.


#### Key Responsibilities

  • Own production outcomes for critical equity derivatives workflows, encompassing monitoring, incident response, stakeholder communication, mitigation strategies, and root cause analysis and follow-through.
  • Design, develop, test, and deploy innovative software solutions while emphasizing technical troubleshooting—systematic problem resolution and system optimization.
  • Design, build, and maintain production-grade systems, adhering to secure, high-quality coding standards and ensuring seamless integrations with core and third-party systems.
  • Produce architecture and design documentation for complex applications, ensuring alignment with business requirements, operational constraints, and improved operational rigor.
  • Collaborate across teams—front office teams, operations, and technology—to refine requirements, define acceptance criteria, and clarify product specifications for seamless delivery.
  • Lead user acceptance testing (UAT) for financial applications, taking ownership of test strategy formulation, defect triage, evidence collection, and sign-off processes, with emphasis on areas like pricing, booking, and risk management.
  • Promote AI-assisted engineering practices within the team, fostering cost-efficient, higher-quality delivery, automating processes, and refining tools for efficiency within security and correctness compliance.
  • Optimise AI adoption in engineering workflows while ensuring responsible use, emphasizing data sensitivity, resiliency, and compliance—coaching peers in secure and compliant AI application.
  • Strengthen release discipline, including regression assessments, fallback rollback planning, post-deployment verification, and system observability improvements.
  • Collect and analyse production data and telemetry to develop improved reporting, tracking, and performance implementative solutions for better perceived stability and predictability.
  • Identify latent failure patterns in production—root-cause analysis, correcting coding and architectural flaws to enhance system reliability.

#### Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Exceptional software engineering fundamentals with hands-on experience across the software development lifecycle, covering system design, development, testing, releases, and production operations.
  • Proficient in Python, Java, and JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Experience in operationalising production-grade systems, attention to stability, performance, and latency.
  • Familiarity with large-scale enterprise environments, proficient in programming languages, databases, and query tools as they apply to building and maintaining high-quality integrations and services.
  • Strong understanding of modern engineering frameworks and tooling such as:
    • JUnit for testing
    • Maven, Spring Boot, Spring Data JPA, Hibernate, Spring Batch for backend development
  • Proven experience leveraging AI-supported tools in software development—authoring processes for validation of AI outputs, ensuring results are compliant with security, performance, and correctness.
  • Responsible AI use skills: Ability to mitigate risks in AI-enhanced workflows—sensitive data handling, secure inputs and outputs, resiliency, compliance, and risk management.
  • Analytical mindset, exceptional problem-solving and debugging abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills—balancing delivery timelines, conflicts, and business alignment.
  • Experience thriving in an agile environment, adept at multi-priority project management, and authoring comprehensive, accessible documentation.
