Lead Software Engineer Python API - Fintech

Lead Software Engineer / Developer London / WFH to £120k

The Role

As a Lead Software Engineer, you’ll:

  • Lead a small, talented tech team in delivering:
    • New features
    • Enhancements
    • Refactoring work
  • Contribute to a core banking platform, integrating with major players like HSBC.
  • Work with a relatively young codebase, tackling new projects.
  • Spend roughly 50% of time on architecture/design and 50% on people management.
  • Set coding standards, mentor junior developers, and foster:
    • Continuous improvement
    • Self-development culture

Location & Flexibility

  • Join colleagues in a Central London office.
  • Hybrid model: up to 2 days per week WFH.

About You

You should have:

  • Python expertise with deep knowledge of:
    • Software engineering best practices
    • Full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Team leadership experience, including:
    • Mentorship
    • 1-2-1s
    • Performance reviews
  • Strong understanding of cloud-based services (preference for GCP, but AWS/Azure experience is fine).
  • Experience in:
    • Building APIs (preference for FastAPI).
    • CI/CD, testing, and deployment pipelines.
  • Thorough grasp of Computer Science fundamentals:
    • Object-Oriented Programming (OOP)
    • Data Structures
    • Design Patterns
    • Algorithms
  • Collaborative, pragmatic, with excellent communication skills.
  • Degree in a STEM discipline with 2.1 or above achievement.
