The Opportunity

As the Lead Software Engineer, you’ll design, develop, and maintain critical infrastructure essential to our roles. Your work will span diverse, mission-driven projects, creating scalable, high-impact solutions. You’ll also lead technical strategy, guiding your team through challenges to align with customer needs.

What You’ll Do

  • Own team deliverables – Collaborate with the Scrum Master to define the optimal development path.
  • Full-cycle software engineering – Drive every phase of development: requirements, design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
  • Cross-functional collaboration – Partner with products, frontend engineers, and QA to ensure high-quality, customer-centric solutions.
  • Mentorship & development – Guide junior developers and elevate team capabilities.

What We’re Looking For

Experience & Expertise

Broadly, we seek Lead Software Engineers with deep skills in either:

  • Backend development: Java/Spring Boot, Maven.
  • Frontend development: React, npm/npx/Yarn.

Plus:

  • Proven ability to design, develop, and deploy scalable backend systems.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD, containerisation (Docker/Kubernetes), and cloud platforms (AWS).
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving—preferably in an agile environment.

Security Clearance

This role requires:

  • A British National.
  • Ability to hold the UK Government’s Highest Level security clearance (whatever that may be; at minimum JW–IV for Polygraph).
