Lead.NET Software Engineer
Locations: London | Hybrid 6 days a month
The Opportunity
The Lead Engineer will play a pivotal role within our Engineering Team, working closely with senior technology leadership to deliver high-quality products and features for our Asset Management and Asset Servicing platforms. Reporting directly to the senior engineering leadership, the Lead Engineer will be accountable for driving technical excellence, developing and leading high-performing teams, and bridging the current experience gap within the engineering function by bringing a strong execution focus, depth of industry knowledge, and leadership experience.
What You Will Get To Do:
Team Leadership and Development
- Lead, coach, and mentor a team of engineers, focusing on raising capability and delivering professional growth.
- Build a culture of accountability, high performance, and continuous improvement.
- Actively develop and enhance the skills of junior and home-grown talent, providing structured guidance, hands-on mentoring, and performance feedback.
- Set clear objectives, provide regular evaluations, and support career progression planning.
- Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and dynamic team environment.
Technical Execution
- Take ownership of the successful execution of project and product deliveries, ensuring they meet agreed timelines, quality, and technical standards.
- Break down complex problems into manageable tasks, translating business requirements into robust technical solutions.
- Lead solution design sessions, ensuring alignment with our Architecture Group principles and Secure SDLC guidelines.
- Oversee detailed planning of development iterations, with responsibility for prioritising technical work and managing team capacity.
- Champion engineering best practices, including Agile methodologies, version control, peer reviews, continuous integration and delivery, and test-driven development.

Technology and Innovation
- Apply strong hands-on expertise in key technologies, including C#, Angular, Microsoft Azure cloud services, and enterprise messaging systems.
- Identify and address technical debt within the platform proactively, balancing immediate product delivery needs with strategic improvements.
- Contribute to architectural discussions, providing pragmatic, scalable, and sustainable solutions.
- Drive innovation through proof-of-concept development and exploration of emerging technologies to add value to the business.
- Ensure appropriate levels of technical documentation, operational readiness, and performance testing are consistently maintained.
Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate closely with Product, Architecture, Operations, and Commercial teams to deliver business goals.
- Represent the engineering team in cross-functional discussions, ensuring technical decisions are well understood and aligned with business priorities.
- Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
Service and Support
- Join the engineering out-of-hours on-call rota (typically once every 3–4 weeks) once fully onboarded and appropriately trained.
- Support incident investigation and resolution with a focus on root cause analysis and long-term fixes.
- Advocate for operational excellence, ensuring services meet high availability, reliability, and security standards.
What You Will Bring:
- Extensive experience in leading software development teams with a strong execution track record.
- Deep technical expertise in:
- C# (.NET Framework and/or.NET Core)
- Angular for SPA (Single Page Application) development
- Microsoft Azure cloud frameworks
- Enterprise messaging systems (e.g., Azure Service Bus, RabbitMQ)
- Modern database systems (Microsoft SQL Server, relational database design)
- High concurrency, multi-threaded system development
- Strong understanding of Agile software development methodologies.
- Proven experience in designing scalable, performant, and resilient systems.
- Hands-on experience with secure software development practices and Secure SDLC principles.

Desirable
- Experience with:
- NoSQL databases
- Blockchain technologies (especially Ethereum)
- Containerisation (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes)
- Financial messaging protocols such as SWIFT 15022, SWIFT/ISO 20022, and FIX
- Previous experience in the financial services or fintech sectors.
- Exposure to DevOps practices and tooling.
