Lead Solutions Engineer – Section 101A (First Time Sewerage)
Location: East Anglia Contract Type: Permanent Working Hours: Full-time (37 hours, with flexible working options)
Salary: Circa £45,000+ (dependent on experience and skills)

About the Role
We’re seeking a passionate and skilled Lead Solutions Engineer to lead the delivery of First Time Sewerage (S101A) schemes under the 1991 Water Industry Act.
This role requires full ownership of S101A applications—from feasibility reviews and technical assessments to site surveys, stakeholder engagement, and project oversight.

Core Responsibilities
- Manage the S101A (First Time Sewerage) Process – From initial applications to assessments, appeals, and finances, ensuring compliance and efficiency.
- Technical & Design Work –
- Conduct outline sewerage infrastructure designs of alternative solutions.
- Input sewerage alternatives (Options) into the AWS Estimating system (Copperleaf C55) for financial assessment (comparing public vs. private sewerage options).
- Utilise data for AWS Business Plan submissions.
- Site Visits & Stakeholder Engagement –
- Visit customers, parish councils, and the Environment Agency (EA).
- Assess pollution risks to local groundwater and watercourses.
- Organise percolation tests and gather external information from the EA and Local Environmental Health Officers.
- Communication & Support –
- Manage the S101A mailbox, responding to customer and agency queries.
- Collaborate with customers, councils, parishes, and government bodies.
- Health & Safety (H&S) Leadership –
- Drive continuous improvement in safety standards.
- Reporting & Business Impact –
- Conduct analysis, results interpretation, and technical reporting.

Key Skills & Behaviours
- Technical Expertise –
- Proven experience in wastewater pipeline project design.
- Relevant engineering qualification or experience.
- Skill in creating technical sketches to communicate solutions.
- Analytical & Creative –
- Ability to compare, assess, and cost alternatives for sewerage schemes.
- Strong design and feasibility analysis skills.
- Communication & Collaboration –
- Excellent written, verbal, and stakeholder management abilities.
- Strong report writing and problem-solving mindset.
- Collaborative nature with diverse teams.
- Digital Proficiency –
- Experience with Copperleaf C55 or carbon accounting tools.
- Comfortable with Estimated Sean’s Edge systems.
