Lead Solutions Engineer

Lead Solutions Engineer – Anglian Water

Location: East Anglia Contract Type: Permanent Working Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week Flexible working opportunities available (discussed during the interview process).

Salary: circa £45,000+ (dependent on experience and skills)

About the Role: Lead Solutions Engineer

We are looking for a skilled and passionate Lead Solutions Engineer to lead First Time Sewerage (S101A) schemes under the Water Industry Act 1991. This role involves managing the S101A applications, assessments, and appeals process while offering autonomy, problem-solving opportunities, and meaningful environmental impact.

You will oversee these projects from early feasibility reviews to final delivery, including:

  • Technical assessments
  • Site surveys
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Delivery oversight

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete Initial Assessments, Detailed Assessments, and Appeals for S101A Applications.
  • Develop outline sewerage infrastructure designs for proposed Alternatives and solutions.
  • Input First Time Sewerage Alternatives (Options) into the AWS Estimating system (Copperleaf C55) for financial comparison of public and private sewerage Alternatives.
  • Conduct site visits to engage with potential sewerage customers, Parish Councils, and the Environment Agency (EA) while assessing risks to local ground and watercourses.
  • Manage the S101A Applications and Assessment & Appeals process, including:
    • Co-ordinating external information requests (e.g., from the EA, Local Environmental Health Officers).
    • Organising percolation tests for assessed areas.
    • Closing S101A mailboxes to field questions from customers and external agencies.
  • Collaborate with Customers, the Environment Agency, Local Councils, and Parish Councils to inform the AWS Business Plan for S101A projects.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement in Health and Safety (H&S) while upholding consistent standards.

Key Skills & Behaviours

Required experience and qualifications:

  • Demonstrable experience in designing pipeline projects within the wastewater industry.
  • Relevant engineering experience or qualification.
  • Ability to produce outline technical sketches to communicate Alternatives/solutions.

Key personal traits:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent collaborative, stakeholder management, and analytical abilities.
  • Strong report-writing skills.
  • Capacity to analyse and interpret results.
  • Passionate about contributing to sustainable and innovative solutions for water infrastructure.
