Site Reliability Engineer – UK International Consumer Bank

As a Site Reliability Engineer within our International Consumer Bank, you’ll shape mission-critical customer experiences in a fast-growing, collaborative team. We seek engineers passionate about technology, reliability, and the financial services industry—solutions-driven innovators who thrive in distributed, diverse work environments.

Your role will focus on:

  • Delivering scalable, resilient fintech platforms
  • Reducing operational friction via automation
  • Defining reliability metrics, observability standards, and proactive resilience patterns

Key Responsibilities

  • Define & enforce reliability standards:
    • Drive continuous improvement in system reliability, monitoring and alerting for mission-critical microservices.
    • Eliminate operational toil through automation, advancing both customer-facing and infrastructure tooling.
  • Observability & measurement mastery:
    • Develop golden signals, SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, and actionable dashboards (Grafana, Prometheusetc.).
    • Implement self-healing patterns: graceful degradation, rate limiting, circuit breakers, and automated failover.
  • Collaborate driven development:
    • Partner with engineering, product and platform teams throughout the software lifecycle, embedding reliability from the start.
    • Contribute to feature design, ensuring observable, resilient, and sustainable systems.
  • Proactive resilience & performance:
    • Conduct load testing and capacity assessments to reduce bottlenecks and enhance scalability.
    • Use AI-driven analysis to streamline incident root causes, reducing resolution times.
  • AI-enhanced operations:
    • Innovate with AI tools to accelerate: log/trace analysis, runbook drafting, documentation, and operational automation.
    • Build and share your AI engineering skills, adapting generative tools for high-security financial systems.

Requirements

Core Competencies

  • Engineering excellence: Proven experience as a Software Engineer (or SRE) with portfolio of shipped, production-grade systems.
  • Distributed systems expertise:
    • Debugging, scaling, and optimising microservices with tools like Kubernetes (EKS/Openshift) and cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
    • Specialisation in: networking, load balancing, service discovery, and ingestion pipelines.
  • Observability & reliability toolset:
    • Hands-on experience with Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/Kibana, or Jaeger/Tracing.
  • AI Partnership:
    • Ability to integrate responsibly AI tools for operational workflows while ensuring accountability, prompt validation, and privacy.

Nice-to-Know Skills

  • AWS expert: Familiarity with cloud-native architectures and managed services.
  • Self-service tooling: Proven track record building: automated deployment pipelines, command-line utilities, or crd-operators.
  • Developer experience (DX) improvements: Contributing to codelabs, golden paths, or reusable patterns.
  • AI Applied Operations: Prior experience with anomaly detection, alert enrichment, or automated alert routing.
