The Role

As a Lead Supervisor OME, you will play a critical role in leading teams responsible for the safe storage, handling, processing, and transportation of explosives. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supervising OME activities, managing explosives facilities, and supporting operational delivery.
  • Leading a team of OME Technicians and Apprentices across West Freugh and Eskmeals sites.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and maintaining the highest standards of operational safety.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and supervising teams undertaking the storage, handling, processing, and transportation of explosive substances and articles.
  • Managing licensed explosives facilities to ensure compliance with internal frameworks and external regulatory requirements.
  • Maintaining stock control, auditing inventory levels, and overseeing explosives accounting processes.
  • Conducting safety inspections, audits, and compliance checks within explosives environments.
  • Supervising loading, unloading, receipt, dispatch, and storage of explosives and related materials.
  • Providing leadership, coaching, and task allocation for safe and effective operational delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Leading and supervising operations related to explosive substances.
  • Ensuring compliance with explosives regulatory frameworks.
  • Managing stock control and inventory audits.
  • Conducting regular safety and compliance checks.
  • Guiding team development and operational execution.

Essential Experience

  • Extensive experience within explosives, munitions, and ordnance environments.
  • Strong understanding of explosives storage, processing, and facility management.
  • Knowledge of explosives regulatory frameworks and licensing requirements.
  • Familiarity with ESTC Standard 6 or TS 2023-03 and facility maintenance requirements.
  • Understanding of HERO principles, electrical categories, and processing regimes in explosive environments.
  • Experience in leading, supervising, and developing technical teams.

Essential Qualifications

  • A degree or HNC in a relevant discipline (or equivalent practical experience gained through an extensive OME career).
  • Evidence of working towards — or willingness to attain — professional membership of an industry body like the Institute of Explosives Engineers.
  • Evidence of progressing towards — or pursuing — EngTech status.

About the Role

  • Workload: 37 hours per week, based at West Freugh site (with frequent travel to Eskmeals).
  • Security requirement: Applicants must be eligible for SC clearance at a minimum.
