Lead System Engineer

Lead Systems Engineer (12-Month+ Contract)

Location: Cheltenham (Hybrid: 3–4 days a week onsite) Duration: 12 Months+ (Long-term potential) Rate: Up to £900 per day (£120/hour) Hours: 37.5 hours per week Framework Alignment: SFIA Level 4–5 expertise required


The Opportunity

Are you a Systems Engineer with SFIA Level 4 or 5 expertise looking for a high-value contract where your expertise directly shapes critical, national-scale infrastructure?

We are seeking a seasoned Systems Engineer to drive complex, high-impact digital and systems-led transformations. Joining a world-class engineering delivery ecosystem, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design, integrate, and assure resilient, future-ready systems within a highly sophisticated and secure environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • System Design & Delivery:
    • Engineer end-to-end solutions that meet complex functional and non-functional requirements.
    • Define interfaces and own technical documentation from build through to deployment.

  • Integration & Assurance:

    • Integrate components across diverse infrastructure, applications, and networks.
    • Ensure all systems robustly meet strict security, compliance, and resilience standards.
  • Risk & Problem Management:

    • Proactively identify technical dependencies and risks.
    • Diagnose and resolve complex system issues during critical service transitions and live operations.
  • Strategic Collaboration:

    • Translate intricate business needs into crisp technical requirements.
    • Bridge the gap between developers, architects, and non-technical stakeholders.

What We Are Looking For

  • Proven Track Record: Deep experience as a Systems Engineer managing full lifecycle delivery (from initial requirements mapping through to live operations).
  • Integration Expertise: Proven background in executing system integration across complex, multi-technology environments.
  • Framework Mapping: Demonstrated capabilities aligned with SFIA Level 4 or 5 core competencies.
  • Education: A degree (or equivalent practical depth) in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.

  • Hands-on exposure to cloud, hybrid, or distributed systems architecture.
