Lead Embedded Systems Engineer - Hybrid, Derby

The Role
Join our Rapidly growing team as Lead Embedded Systems Engineer, leading a multidisciplinary group of hardware and embedded software engineers. You’ll act as the technology partner to customer and business, driving end-to-end hardware product development—or delivery leadership across the full product lifecycle from conception to production.
This is a hands-on leadership role, blending technical strategy, team mentorship, and execution ownership.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of hardware/embedded engineers
- Define and steer technical direction across multiple hardware projects
- Drive architecture, design quality, and industry standards
- Collaborate extensively with product, manufacturing, and QA teams to ensure deliveries hit reliability markers
- Manage deliverables, risk assessment, and priority trade-offs across concurrent projects
- Champion prototyping workflows, forensic problem-solving, and on-site diagnostics

Requirements & Skills
Essentials
- Proven embedded systems expertise (C/C++)
- Deep experience with embedded Linux, RTOS, or bare-metal development
- Hands-on hardware design and validation competency
- Proven leadership in leading or mentoring teams (engineering focus)
- Track record of delivering turnkey hardwareProdactons—ideally in regulated/technical safety environments
- Strong stakeholder engagement, persuasive communication, and decision-making
Desirable Bonus
- Breadth in regulated industry environments (medical, aerospace, safety-critical, etc.)
- Familiarity with communication protocols/peripherals; (UART, RS485, RS422, I2C, SPI and beyond
- Exposure to embedded testing frameworks, automation, DevOps/CI pipelines, or embedded debugging tools
