Job Description Summary

Grid Automation provides innovative protection, control, and automation solutions that enable safer, more resilient, and digital power grids. Our portfolio includes substation automation systems, SCADA applications, network management, cybersecurity solutions, and digital substation technologies used across transmission and distribution networks worldwide.

We are looking for a Technical Applications Engineer (TAE) to join our Northern Europe team, based in the UK, playing a pivotal role in bridging customer needs, commercial strategy, and technical execution. This position acts as a key technical authority and interface for Grid Automation solutions across the region.

In this role, you will be responsible for translating customer requirements into robust, high-quality technical solutions, supporting both pre-sales and post-sales activities. You will provide expert technical guidance across Grid Automation products, contribute to solution design and application engineering, and ensure successful technical delivery in close collaboration with sales, engineering, and service teams.

This is a high-impact, customer-facing engineering position where technical expertise, system understanding, and commercial awareness come together. You will directly influence solution quality, customer satisfaction, and project success, while contributing to the continued growth and competitiveness of the Grid Automation portfolio across Northern Europe.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Execute the review, analysis, and resolution of assigned customer application enquiries using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product/deadline requirements. Including homologation activities and FAT support.
  • Provision of technical support to internal and external customers on the complete range of Grid Automation Products (focused on Digital Control System, network management, cybersecurity, etc) both by remotely and face-to-face meetings. The role will consist of both office-based responsibilities and visits to customer sites.
  • Assist the Commercial/Sales organization in ensuring the best technical solution, promotion of products, presentations, and assistance during technical negotiations, as well as completing formal tenders for Grid Automation products/solutions in line with customer specifications.
  • Conduct customer training to help customers in the application and operation of the Grid Automation products and services.
  • Attendance of trade shows, seminars, and conferences as necessary.
  • Capture market intelligence for future developments.
  • Conduct Grid Automation portfolio training to internal employees.
  • Support the OTR Engineering and Service teams in the correct application and operations of Grid Automation Products.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical/Electronic or Telecommunications Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Proven experience in a customer-facing engineering position.
  • Advanced Substation Control System SCADA Applications Knowledge within the Transmission & Distribution segment.
  • Experience with IEC 61850-based Substation Automation solutions, network architectures, and RTUs.
  • Must be able to assist customers in the selection and implementation of the best GE Vernova solution for their applications.
  • Experience with Network protocols, HMI systems, and software packages.
  • Cybersecurity experience in OT environments.
  • Ability to analyze specific applications and produce technical reports.
  • Commercial Acumen.
  • Able to travel both in-country and overseas.
  • Languages – English (duties require writing and verbal communication with customers).
  • Strong knowledge of Digital Substations and software-defined solutions.
