Main Purpose of the Role & Responsibilities in the Business
As a Lead Test Engineer (Consultant) in Kainos, you’ll be a technical leader and innovator in software testing, providing strong test leadership and direction within a multi-skilled agile team. Taking responsibility for the strategy, design, and development of automated, manual, and non-functional tests, you’ll help the team deliver working application software that meets user needs and is of sufficient quality for promotion to users.
This is a fast-paced environment, so sound, reasoned decision-making is critical. You’ll continue to learn about new technologies and methodologies while collaborating with talented colleagues who support your development and growth.

- Manage, coach, and develop a small number of staff, focusing on employee performance and career development
- Provide direction and leadership for your team while solving complex challenges together
- Engage with customers, share knowledge, and mentor colleagues
Minimum (Essential) Requirements
- Experience ensuring testing layers have adequate coverage in line with software testing principles and practices
- Expertise in designing, creating, and maintaining:
- Test scripts
- Test approaches (manual and automated)
- Test coverage across all application layers, including non-functional testing
- Proficiency in Test Automation open-source technologies, such as:
- Selenium
- JUnit
- TestNG
- Cucumber
- Cypress
- Ability to configure testing tools like Jenkins and/or TeamCity within a continuous integration environment
- Practical knowledge of at least one object-oriented programming language (e.g., Java)
- High technical awareness with a strong understanding of software architectures
- Experience in managing others, setting objectives, providing feedback, and leading performance reviews
- Passion for technology and a desire to expand knowledge of latest QA tools, technologies, and methodologies

Desirable
- Previous experience operating within a Test Lead role (or similar) on a medium-to-large-sized Agile project
- Demonstratable expertise in stakeholder management and commercial awareness
