Lead Theatre Practitioner – Robotics
Location The Harborne Hospital, Birmingham
Hours & Contract Type Full-time (37.5 hours per week) Monday to Friday with occasional Saturdays (mix of short and long shifts) Permanent contract

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Lead Theatre Practitioner – Robotics to join our advanced theatre team at The Harborne Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare UK. Here, cutting-edge robotics technology supports high-standard surgical care, and seamless workflows drive clinical excellence.
In this highly visible leadership role, you’ll:
- Champion safe, high-quality robotic perioperative care
- Oversee robotic equipment setup, optimisation, and troubleshooting
- Train and mentor colleagues to enhance capability and confidence
- Drive workforce and service development in partnership with University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate robotic theatre activity, ensuring efficient surgical list delivery
- Optimise and maintain robotic systems (e.g., da Vinci platforms), covering setup, calibration, and problem-solving
- Support surgical teams during complex robotic procedures
- Mentor and develop Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) or nurses in robust robotic techniques
- Collaborate with Surgical Services Management on training needs, workflow improvements, and equipment readiness
- Enforce aseptic standards and compliance protocols
- Work across "short and long shifts" (Monday–Friday with occasional Saturdays)

Requirements
- Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner (NMC/HCPC registration required)
- In-depth experience in robotic-assisted surgery (e.g., da Vinci Surgical System)
- Strong understanding of theatre workflows within a robotic speciality unit
- Proven ability to train and guide other practitioners in clinical settings
- Ability to apply high safety standards and efficient systems to theatre operations
