The Adult Education Service
Part of Coventry City Council, the Adult Education Service provides:
- Long courses in:
- English
- Maths
- English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
- ICT/Digital
- Vocational subjects (e.g., Early Years) for residents aged 19+ (with a focus on high-needs individuals)
- Support for adults with learning disabilities
- Short community courses in arts, crafts, music, dance, exercise, fitness, and family learning
- A study programme for young people
Work-based learning includes:
- Apprenticeships in Nursery Workers, Teaching Assistants, Leadership/Management, and Customer Care
- Job Readiness support through the Council’s Job Shop
Delivery locations: Mostly centered at Southfields Old School (CV1 5EJ) and at around 25 sites across Coventry, targeting areas of highest need.

Job Role: 2 x ESOL Lead Tutor Roles (1 permanent, 1 12-month fixed-term)
Opportunity: Lead high-quality ESOL adult learning programmes in Coventry, delivering early-years education, job training, leaning support structures, and team mentoring.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach & Mentor: Lead ESOL sessions, mentor colleagues, and coordinate Learning Support Assistants/volunteers.
- Learner Support: Advocate for inclusion, break down barriers to learning, address safeguarding concerns, and signpost learners to external help (e.g., housing, employment).
- Quality Assurance: Conduct learner feedback surveys and focus groups, share case studies, and support Internal Quality Assurance (IQA).
- Curriculum Development: Plan and deliver engaging sessions across diverse learning styles, align with assessment standards.
- Partnerships: Arrange volunteering placements & enrichment activities for progression.
- Tutoring: Supervise ESOL teams, instill best practices in inclusive/trauma-informed teaching.
- Travel: Regular commuting across Coventry sites; year-round program delivery.
Minimum Requirements:
- Qualified with experience: Level 4/5 in CELTA/TESOL, DTLLS/DET/DI(ESOL)
- Adult ESOL teaching qualifications: Proven background in community-based tutoring
- Familiarity with barriers to learning (e.g., pre-literate learners) and inclusion strategies.
- Leadership & teamwork: Managing teams, addressing safeguarding concerns, confidence in digital delivery.
- Commitment to high-quality inclusive education.
